Product: Windmills into watermills

Can a wind turbine work when there is rain and no/mild wind?  What if there is a blade shape that could be mostly effective in capturing the energy behind wind like a normal wind turbine, but also harness the energy of falling water?  Would it have a retractable bucket/scoop at the end of the blade?

The Product: AquaWind

How it works:
When it is raining outside, the buckets extend and when filled push the arms forward creating energy from rain.  When windy an not raining the buckets retract and the system operates like a standard wind turbine.

Teaching Tool: Sketch Wars

Encouraging quick accurate sketching is vital when teaching Industrial Design students how to visually express themselves.  Having fun while doing so just makes the process easier and more enjoyable.

The game/learning tool:
Sketch Wars

How it works:
1. Create two teams of students, varying who is on each team with each new game.
2. Vote on a Rating System.  See what the students have learned by asking them
what is important when sketching.  Post the system somewhere very visible.
Example Rating System: #1 Draw through. #2 Show primitives.  #3 Have fun with it.
3. Define the sketch space - obtain a blank canvas for students to sketch on.
Examples: a dry-erase board, a chalk board,  two sketch pads
4. Set a time limit, appoint a time keeper and post or call out time intervals.
5. Critique the work based on the Rating System. Follow up with teaching the
students how to make it better.
6. Have fun.

Product: eBloom

Who says an LED light bulb should look like an incandescent bulb?  We should reach further when designing new lights.  Here is one type of exploration into LED light "bulbs."

The product:
eBloom

How it works:
This new configuration for LEDs will fit into a standard socket.  Replace old boring bulbs with eBlooms to make a small, beautiful upgrade.  Also, you will be doing the environment a solid by using less energy.
